Iain Nisbet, the Convener of the School Closure Review Panels, has published his third annual report.

The Convener has submitted the report to the Scottish Ministers in line with the requirements of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 (“the 2010 Act”) (as amended). The report covers the exercise of the Convener’s functions during the year 2017, and the exercise of the functions of any School Closure Review Panel which has carried out a review under the 2010 Act in that year.

Introducing the report, Mr Nisbet said:

“The past year saw local authority elections across Scotland and consequent changes in education authority administration. Possibly as a result, there were no school closure decisions called in by Scottish Ministers for review this year.

However, much work is ongoing behind the scenes to ensure that we are prepared to deal with any future call-ins. In this year’s annual report, there is a focus on children’s participation in the consultation process – which is an important statutory right and a significant part of any consultation.”
